17129

1962 Seamens Savings Bank American Sailing Ship Prints This wonderfully detailed American sailing ship lithographs/prints were compiled by the Seamen's Bank For Savings in New York in 1962.

Each of the prints were taken from an original painting by a different artist. These 4 frame-worthy prints each measure 16 x 12 inches. The actual design measures 13 3/8 x 9 inches if the purchaser wishes to crop the prints to fit in a different sized frame.

The first ship featured is the Meridian built in Boston, Massachusetts by Samuel Hall in 1862. This print was taken from the painting of J. & F. Tudgay.

The next ship featured is the New World built in Boston, Massachusetts by Donald McKay in 1846. This print was taken from a painting by S. Walters.

The third ship is the Pleiades, built in Bath, Maine by John C. Lowell in 1855. This print was taken from a painting by D. McFarlane.

Last is the Reynard, built in Newburyport, Massachusetts by G. W. Jackman in 1856. This is the only print which states that the artist is unknown.

This portfolio of prints is in superb condition, without any tears. They were done on heavy paper stock. The detail on each is truly amazing, and the color use and shading really make the prints come to life.

There is some wear to the protective portfolio cover. The inside of the cover briefly tells the story of each of the sailing ships featured.

1970's Artaco Framed Indian Maiden II Foil Art Print Before the advent of laser, some printing techniques were able to give prints a sense of depth and motion. Along with the changing reflective light, the lithograph took on a new perspective. This Indian Maiden II print, marked Artaco, 1976, has several different looks depending on the lighting or how the print is positioned.

Gold and silver foil with a few highlighted splashes of color give this Indian maiden a unique appearance. Total print size is 8 1/4 inches x 10 1/4 inches and the black acrylic frame with the narrow gold band complements the Indian print. We do note that there is creasing of the foil to the left of the maiden’s head, but over-all, the print is in fine shape.

17159

Earl Solomon Metal Sculpture Garden Man With Shovel This marvelous metal sculpture is life-like in appearance and richly detailed. The metal work, with a gardening theme, is of a man holding a long handled shovel, with a foot on the top of the shovel, ready to work.

We believe that this sculpture was created from old style metal nails, the type found back in the forties and fifties time period. The figure’s head, shoulders, arms, hips, and legs are made from these nails, which were tapered and bent to accommodate the proportions the artist needed for his gardening figure. The sculptor used sheet metal for the shovel and a metal rod for the handle.

The figural metal man is mounted on a piece of hardwood which measures 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 inches, and the entire sculpture from the base to the top of the head is 4 1/2 inches tall. What a well thought out and constructed sculpture this is! Stamped under the wooden base with the artisan’s name, Earl Solomon of Orchard Park, New York, this miniature would be a wonderful display item.

These nails were tapered and bent by the sculptor to his proportions for the garden man. Sheet metal was used for the wheelbarrow, and a washer was used for the wheel mechanism.

The metal figure is mounted on a block of hardwood which measures 2 3/4 x 4 3/8 inches long. The entire piece is 4 1/2 inches tall from the base to the top of the gardener’s head.
