17159

Earl Solomon Metal Sculpture Garden Man With Shovel This marvelous metal sculpture is life-like in appearance and richly detailed. The metal work, with a gardening theme, is of a man holding a long handled shovel, with a foot on the top of the shovel, ready to work.

We believe that this sculpture was created from old style metal nails, the type found back in the forties and fifties time period. The figure’s head, shoulders, arms, hips, and legs are made from these nails, which were tapered and bent to accommodate the proportions the artist needed for his gardening figure. The sculptor used sheet metal for the shovel and a metal rod for the handle.

The figural metal man is mounted on a piece of hardwood which measures 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 inches, and the entire sculpture from the base to the top of the head is 4 1/2 inches tall. What a well thought out and constructed sculpture this is! Stamped under the wooden base with the artisan’s name, Earl Solomon of Orchard Park, New York, this miniature would be a wonderful display item.

Earl Solomon Metal Sculpture Garden Man w/ Wheelbarrow This terrific metal sculpture is a figural man who is depicted rolling a wheelbarrow with an actual stone rock that he is removing or transporting to another area of his garden. Old style nails of the kind used in the 40’s and 50’s time period were used in the construction of the figure’s head, shoulders, arms, hips, and legs. These nails were tapered and bent by the sculptor to his proportions for the garden man. Sheet metal was used for the wheelbarrow, and a washer was used for the wheel mechanism.

The metal figure is mounted on a block of hardwood which measures 2 3/4 x 4 3/8 inches long. The entire piece is 4 1/2 inches tall from the base to the top of the gardener’s head. The artisan’s name, Earl Solomon, Orchard Park, New York is stamped under the base. This is a unique miniature metal sculpture, one that would be an eye-appealing focal point of any display.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 18624: Paris Etching Society Framed Print Arched Bridge SZL
Click for more detail...
18624

Paris Etching Society Framed Print Arched Bridge SZL Sydney Zoltan Lucas is the SZL trademark name and the founder of the Paris Etching Society. Lesser known artists sponsored by Lucas were able to focus on the creative aspect of their artistry, rather than worrying about the marketing and sale of their etchings.

The great majority of the etchings were done during the 30’s/40’s time period, and with their watercolor appearance, are known as aquatint prints. The Arched Bridge by the artist Gusty has a gold tone metal framed size of 8 1/4 x 7 inches with the etching being 3 1/2 x 5 inches and is double matted under a glass cover. A lovely thatched cottage is at the left of the etching with a dirt path or walkway. This stone bridge has two arches and its construction most likely dates back hundreds of years.

The print, with the signature of the artist, and the frame are in fine vintage condition. This etching has the documented SZL triangle marking and description of the Paris Etching Society, along with the #5. Mr. Lucas also had a print shop and did make reproductions from original etchings. Those replicated etchings were marked with the SZL in a circle, rather than the triangle marking. In addition, the paper label on the backside of the print states that an etching is only considered a Genuine Original when it is done completely by hand, without the use of any mechanical process.

Folk Art Wood Carving African Tribal Man Playing Drum This is a terrific piece of folk art wood carving in the figure of an African tribal man playing a drum. He is standing on a 2 1/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch block wood base and has wonderful linear features. The drummer is primitive in appearance, accentuated by his long arms, legs, and neck, and the tall drum.

The darker tones we attribute to knot areas in the wood. This folk art piece has been carved from one piece of wood. There are no glued together pieces and overall it is in fine condition, unmarked as to artist or origin.
