Reminiscences of Men John D. Rockefeller Book w/ Bonus Fascinating look into the late 19th, early 20th century business practices of John D. Rockefeller, who amassed a fortune through his Standard Oil corporation. Published by the Sleepy Hollow Press in 1984, this book is the first to include more than eighty photographs of Rockefeller, his family and friends, the Standard Oil refineries, and his homes.

Included in the 122 page book is a 1983 Christmas card which was sent to members of the Rockefeller staff. Signed by his grandsons Laurance and David, the greeting card announced the publication of their grandfather’s memoirs.

The book is in over-all excellent condition without any creases, dog-ears, or markings. The original dust jacket is in place with a tiny tear at the top left, and slight rub losses to the red color, but these are the only damage issues in this over-all excellent condition book & card.

The Wonderful World of Automobiles Book 1895-1930 Hundreds of black and white advertisements, promotions, cartoons fill the Wonderful World of Automobiles soft cover book. Throughout its nearly 300 pages, the reader will discover countless autos that he probably never knew existed during the early years of car manufacturing.

Steam, gas and electric powered automobiles are all here for you to see. The first cars were produced before 1900, and by 1910, there were more than a half million autos on the road. That may not seem like many by today’s numbers, but for an industry just starting out, it was pretty remarkable.

Published in 1971 by Digest Books, the Wonderful Automobile book revisits those pioneering autos of yesterday and is in very good vintage condition with strong binding and no rips, tears, or writings.

3333

1963 Encyclopedia Brown Book 1st Ed Donald Sobo-VG This is a scarce First Edition Hard Cover Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective book published in 1963 by Thomas Nelson Publishers of Nashville and New York. This was also the first book in the Encyclopedia series by author Donald Sobol with black and white illustrations by Leonard Shortall among its 88 pages.

A fifth grader by the real name of Leroy, Encyclopedia Brown earned his nickname because of his ability to remember facts and figures that most boys his age can’t. With his tomboy friend Sally Kimble, Encyclopedia solves cases out of his garage on Rover Avenue in the town of Idaville for 25 cents a day plus expenses.

The Encyclopedia Brown series books usually had ten or more cases for Encyclopedia to solve. What made these adventures even more fun was that they challenged the reader to come up with the answers to the puzzling crimes. There was at least one inconsistency that would point the way to solving the case. If the reader needed additional help, the solutions could also be found at the end of the book.

The hardcover book is in very fine vintage condition. There is minor wear at spine ends and corners but the binding is solid and strong. The pages do show age-related browning, but no tears, dog-ears, or any markings. A fine opportunity to own a hard to find, first in series children’s book.
