1004

6 Early Noritake Mystery Mark #80 Bread & Butter Plates Such a pretty design on these 6 1/8 inches in diameter bread & butter/pie plates!

Handpainted black and mustard geometric pattern borders the gold edging. A pale yellow color surrounds the white central portion, and two sides of the plate are decorated with black and mustard urns/compotes filled with fruit and leaves. Garlands of violet flowers and leaves complement the urn designs.

Alden’s book of Noritake pattern identification show this to be an exact match to Mystery Mark #80, with the year dating between 1918 and the 1920’s. The backside of the plates have the red Noritake marking, the letter M in a wreath, handpainted, and Japan.

There are some light scratch marks in the center white area on a few of the plates, most likely made from stacking the plates, rather than utensil marks. They have no chips, cracks, or flakes, or any loss to the vivid print, and appear to be unused.

1201

1940's New York China Company Tea Pot, Creamer & Sugar Beautiful robin’s egg blue iridescent coloring and gold enhancements make this tea set very attractive and eye-catching.

Manufactured by New York China and Glass Company, the set consists of a teapot which stands 6 3/4 inches tall to the top of lid and measures 9 inches across from handle to end of spout. The creamer is 3 1/2 inches tall and is 3 3/4 inches across the top opening. The sugar bowl stands 3 1/2 inches tall without the lid which adds another 2 1/4 inches in height.

All the pieces have bright, vivid coloring and the gold trim is intact. There are no chips, cracks, or staining.

Although we were unable to exactly date this set, we believe that it was manufactured in the late 40’s – early 50’s time frame. The teapot does not have a stop lock which would be typical of the earlier produced tea wares.

Each of the pieces is stamped under the base with C & G in two squares, the trademark of the New York China Company, which was founded in 1946, and Warranted 22K Gold.

1700

Rosenthal China Claudia Tea Service & Lunch Set For 6 An exquisite vintage Rosenthal, Kronach Germany tea service in the Claudia pattern number 2970. On an ivory colored background are clusters of light moss green, pastel pink and yellow flowers. Gold encrusted gilt trim and button finials on the tea pot and sugar bowl.

The 4 cup tea pot stands 3 3/4 inches tall to top of lid, the creamer is 2 3/4 inches tall and the sugar bowl measures 2 3/4 inches tall to the top of lid. Each of the six cups measures 2 3/8 inches tall and 3 3/4 inches across the top opening. The accompanying saucers are 6 inches in diameter and six luncheon plates measure 7 3/4 inches diameter.

All the pieces of this tea service are in excellent, vintage condition. The only note we make is of slight scratch lines on two of the plates. These are not knife gauges, but only surface markings we mention for the sake of
accuracy.

The Rosenthal pieces were purchased at an antique auction estate sale, and the sole previous owner was one of the first WAC nurses to serve during World War II. She bought them during the forties/fifties time frame and they have seen only minimal use. Mostly, they were displayed in her breakfront cabinet.

The green stamp on the backside has the R.C. crown and X lines mark. Kronach, Bavaria, Form E (Elfenbeln time line from 1901-1956 for the Claudia pattern, and signed in gold ink, Waltrand (the artist or decorator’s name).

This is a wonderful opportunity to own a complete Rosenthal tea and luncheon service of exceptional quality, and hand painted classic design.

1644

Franciscan Ware Coronado Cups, Saucers, Sugar Bowl Known as one of the best selling and recognizable patterns in china is the Coronado line produced by Gladding McBean & Co of California. In this Franciscan Ware grouping we have 2 cups standing 2 1/2 inches tall with a 4 inch wide opening across the top. Accompanying saucers have a diameter of 5 3/4 inches. The open sugar bowl stands 3 inches tall and measures 5 inches from handle to handle.

Excellent condition original china from the twenties/thirties time frame is becoming increasingly more difficult to find and we are pleased to say that these five pieces have no cracks, chips or nicks. We do note and our pictures show two slightly different shades of coral on saucers and cups from separate production runs. The Franciscan Ware, Made in California, USA stamp can be found under the bases.

Click for more detail...
471

50's American Limoges Casino Card Theme Plates/Platter This is an unusual and well-crafted ceramic from American Limoges China. Based on a card theme of the four playing suits – hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades, American Limoges designed china ware in those shapes with king, queen and jack characters.

The three 1950 time frame pieces we offer are a 10 x 12 inch Jack of Diamonds platter, and two 8 x 9 1/2 inch dinner plates, that can easily be used as serving plates to complement the platter. This trio makes a wonderful arrangement for those card sessions or fun get togethers.

All three are in fine vintage condition without any cracks, chips, or nicks. The only note we make is of crazing on the pieces. Each is stamped on the backside with the American Limoges name, and Casino. The sole previous owner told us that American Limoges successfully marketed these card themed plates in many upscale Las Vegas gift shops during the fifties, not selling them as a set but as separate pieces. Her three plates were in fact purchased there, and were used only for display.

1029

Old Taylor Smith and Taylor T S & T Gravy/Sauce Boat Measuring 8 inches across from tip of the spout and standing 2 3/4 inches tall, is this old sauce/gravy boat, marked T S & T under the base, along with Capitol Ivory and the #29. Although Taylor, Smith and Taylor did use the initials T S & T on many of its creations, we have not been able to identify this piece with certainty.

The pattern on the gravy boat is a wrap-around design with one blue band of geometrics and florals. Beneath the blue band is a swag treatment of pink roses and leaves that also encircles the gravy/sauce boat.

There are no chips, cracks, or nicks on this piece but there is age browning, and some loss of the gold trim on the handle that we note.
