Artist Tommy Humphrey recreated his winning Federal Duck Stamp for this 1992, W.S. George plate, using a technique called scratchboard art.
Using black India ink and color, the artist meticulously uses a sharp pen-like tool to literally scratch-out his painting on a dry white clay/porcelain surface. Thousands of fine lines and or dots actually form the finished painting.
The 8 inch in diameter, gold rimmed plate features wood ducks, found in most of North America, Canada, and Mexico. Winged Splendor displays them in all of their soaring beauty.

The female with her more muted coloring of browns and grays and the male with his green, red, and purple coloring.
The excellent condition plate is being offered with a mahogany, gold inner banded Van Hygan & Smythe hardwood frame. The frame is in very good overall condition with only some slight scuffing on the gold banding. All of the paperwork and certificate of authenticity come with the plate, but we do not have the original box.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity for a true wild-life collector’s plate, and display ready frame! |
