Noted for its native clays dating back to the Incas, the Chulucanas region of Peru has fostered the growth of native artisans, and has become recognized for the marvelous art pieces created there.
This set of wall hanging water jars, or ollas measure 3 1/4 inches by 4 1/2 inches (the smaller one) and 4 1/4 inches by 4 3/4 inches (the larger one) and complement each other in coloring and design. Both have a reddish brown background with highlighted areas of green, yellow and red. The central design of an incised beetle or scarab is a familiar symbol found on Peruvian pottery.
Each of the jars is signed by the artist under the base, Robert, and the letter M enclosed within the letter C, Chulucanas Peru, 1999 and is in fine, ready to display condition. |
