Ruffles, rhythm, and dance are words that spring to mind when looking at our vintage male and female dancing couple. They seem so life-like that it’s like watching a nightclub or stage act. Most likely from the 40’s time frame, the figural lamps stand 17 1/4 inches tall on a 4 1/2 inch in diameter base. The socket and detachable harp add an additional 11 1/2 inches to the total height.
The copyright symbol on the side of the base is marked Adolph. The old electrical was recently replaced with new wire, plug, and light socket. The two Latin American, Spanish dancers are visually striking in costumes of red, splashed with black, white and gold trim ruffles. The lady is holding a tambourine, and the male dancer has maracas in hand. The free flowing figures give a marvelous sense of movement and rhythm and are in superb condition. These two were in storage for many years before we purchased them. On vintage chalkware, wear and damage can occur more easily than on ceramic, but these two do not seem to have chips or nicks. We note paint touch up in spots.
The two lamps are a treasure in style, and craftsmanship. Own a piece of artistic history, because they don’t make chalkware lamps like this anymore.
