This vintage stoneware/pottery mixing bowl measures 9 1/4 inches in diameter and is 3 5/8 inches deep.
Done in a periwinkle (mixture of blue and purple) color, the bowl features a raised pattern of blueberries, cherries and apples within the surface.
In great condition, free of any chips, cracks or flakes. There are areas of roughness and glaze skips commonly associated with stoneware. Also there are some lighter areas/streaks within the coloring on the interior surface which occurred during the manufacturing process. Bowl looks to have been used only minimally, if at all.
Only identifying marking is USA on the bottom. It was common for pottery produced during the 1930's-1950's time frame to carry only a USA or made in USA stamp with no manufacturer's identification. Many pottery giants such as McCoy, Hull, Watt, Shawnee, and Western Stoneware to name a few, used this mark to identify their wares.
When we acquired this piece we were told by the seller that the bowl was an early Watt Pottery production. We have not been able to find any information to positively confirm this.
This is a heavy piece, weighing close to 3 pounds unpackaged. A great vintage bowl, whether for use or display. |
