Salem China, founded in 1898 ended its china production in 1967. Manufactured in the 1920’s to 1940 time frame, the 11 3/4 inch by 8 3/4 inch oval Century platter has the 22k gold treatment along the rim, and a Petit Point/Needlepoint look with its central design of a Dutch couple.
Famous designer Viktor Schreckengost, who had previously worked at Hall China Company, is the creative genius behind many Salem patterns. This platter has some utensil marks and slight acid staining on front edging and again, on the backside. There are no cracks, or chips, and it is, over all, in fine vintage condition. |
