This Taylor Smith and Taylor china lot is done in the Pink Castle pattern which dates back to 1938. The pieces are what is referred to as garland shaped and feature a central transfer ware design of dark pink English scenes, with scalloped edges and raised leaf design on the inside edge.
This offering consists of a total of 10 pieces. Included are:
5 berry/sauce/dessert bowls measuring 5 1/4 inches in diameter and 1 1/8 inch deep 3 bread and butter plates measuring 6 1/4 inches in diameter 2 saucers measuring 6 inches in diameter
The pieces are in overall very good condition for their 70 plus years of age. There are no cracks on any of the pieces and they are free of crazing. There are utensil markings on the pieces, although not very apparent. The transfer ware design is distinct and bright.
There are some imperfections we would like to note (the areas noted are slight and do not detract from look, charm or functionality of the pieces, and are being mentioned for the sake of accuracy): Berry bowl (small chip/flake on the topside) Berry bowl (small chip/flake on topside, and two underneath) Bread and butter (small chip/flake on the underside) Bread and butter (very slight acid stain/discoloration on the inner edge) One of the saucers has red marks which match the transfer ware coloring outside of the design area, which occurred during the time of manufacturing. Also, there are the standard marks on the back from the firing process.
Each piece is stamped in green on the backside: Taylor Smith and Taylor USA. Also, both the berry bowls and bread and butter plates are stamped with the number 10402. The saucers are stamped with the number 2402. |
