This is a marvelous primitive looking pottery jar, perhaps yellow ware, standing 6 inches tall, 8 inches across from end of pouring spout, and 7 inches from end of handle to back side.

The pouring spout, heavy handle and stepped, well-fitted cover lead us to believe that this piece was intended to be used for ceremonial use or as a medicine man’s wet drug jar.
The piece was hand turned on a potter’s wheel, with the handle and spout hand applied separately. The pour spout has been pinched to give a look of hand sewn leather. The fine condition jar is embossed with either the name Kimna or Kivna under the base. |
