Terrific magazine for jazz, bebop, and bop fans, is this Down Beat 102 page tribute to so many of the music greats from the thirties to the sixties. Down Beat made its first appearance in 1934, profiling in its editions, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Glenn Miller, Count Basie and the list goes on.
The Swing Era ushered in bands in greater numbers than there were before or since. Fascinating profiles, history and pictures (most in black and white) can be found in this 30 Year Anniversary issue along with great advertising profiling 1960’s cars, airplanes, liquor, etc.
The magazine has age related wear and page browning but is solid, intact, with no rips, tears or markings. A wonderful panorama of three decades of jazz in America! |
