This is a marvelous native Antiguan Folk Art wooden box with hand carved sailfish design on top and bottom that was purchased at an estate sale. This very interesting piece had been bought in Antigua by the man’s parents and its use is similar to a pu-pu or appetizer tray. On the inside, the box has decorative carvings that surround twelve round pods (6 to a side) and two oblong shaped depressions, (one on either side). The two sides are hinged together, and when opened on a table, the pods would be filled with fish, seafood, and sauces.
The set comes with six mini forks that are marked, Stainless Japan. The artist’s name, G. Julian, Antigua is etched into the side of the box. This Antigua box is in very fine condition, and when you bring it to your table, you’ll be adding a tropical island flair to any get-together. |
