These matching soup bowls with under plates were manufactured by Shenango China for the Nassau Inn. This historic inn, located in the heart of Princetown, New Jersey since 1756, is well renowned for its elegant facilities.
The bowls measure 4 5/8 inches in diameter and are about 2 1/2 inches deep. Under plates are 6 5/8 inches in diameter.
The front sides show a stagecoach or wagon. At the top of the coach in small lettering it says New York, Princeton & Philadelphia. The back sides have a red banner that says The Coach Room of the Nassau Inn.
The bottoms of the bowls are stamped with the Shenango China U.S.A. name and Rimrol Welroc. The numbers 20 and 21 signify that the plates were manufactured in 1962 and the bowls in 1963.
In very good vintage condition, pieces are free of any chips, cracks or flakes. Only light wear associated with use is noted. Plates have 3 small unglazed areas on the underneath which are the kiln marks from the firing process. Set weighs slightly over 3 pounds before packaging.
A great find for both the Shenango or historical collector. Excellent for both use or display. |
