Beginning his career in advertisement and as a graphic designer, Kevin Platt turned his fascination with Cornwell, England into a new career pathway with sea and landscapes. The York print, signed by the artist in the bottom right hand corner, captures the atmosphere of a by-gone era. With its rows of shops on cobblestone streets and horse and buggies, the 3 7/8 x 5 1/8 inch print is a visual trip down memory lane.
The intricately detailed frame, measuring 7 3/4 x 9 3/8 inches also qualifies as a work of art. Beveled molding at all four corners, round-over molding with relief sections, and angled molding combine to give the print a shadow-box appearance. The rich, multi-grain oak wood enhances the print and complements the color tones.
Purchased by the sole previous owner on a trip to England during the 1970’s, the print is in fine vintage condition although we do note a slight ding to the bottom beveled wood on the right side. The saw-toothed hanger on the backside makes this wonderful Petergate – York print ready to display. |
