Because Koa wood is indigenous only to the Hawaiian Islands, there is not an abundance of items constructed with Koa. The wood graining, curliness of the wood, with its multi-tones and durability, has long been favored by Hawaiian artisans for decorative and utilitarian items like bowls.
These three vintage bowls measure 7 inches across the top and stand 2 inches tall. We do make note of some areas of discoloring to the bowls. We are not sure if this is from the Koa wood, or possibly from use with acidic type food. One of them has a tight hairline crack which does not show in our pictures, and does not detract from its appearance or usage. Each bowl has incised under the base, Kane’s of Hawaii, Koa Wood. |
