A terrific oldie, but goodie probably from the 1950’s or earlier is this commemorative UNC mug/stein that stands 5 1/4 inches tall, measures 3 inches across the top, and has a 4 inch wide base. Ceramic with a wood look appearance, it was constructed so that the thick roping is inset into the mug, not just resting on the top surface. The sturdy rope handle has three copper bands in place.
The gold university crest/shield on the front of the mug has UNC Lux and Libertas printed on the design. There are two blue colored stains on the interior bottom under the glaze, occurring during manufacture and a small brown streak which probably happened over time from crazing. Very faint impression under the base appears to read, Made in USA but no manufacturer name. |
