Incised under the base, P L, France, this vintage candleholder with dual 1 inch diameter candle cups may have been done by the Pont Des Vernes Manufactory in Dijon, France perhaps by Paul Langeron who was actually head of the company and marked pieces with his P L initials until 1919. It may, however, be P L Limoges France porcelain which was founded in 1906 and continued in business until 1938.
This artful candlestick is definitely an old one and in fine vintage condition. It measures 8 1/4 inches across the base from one upswept edge to the other and stands 3 1/2 inches tall. The cream background, along with the gold ribbon treatment, gives this piece an elegant, classic appearance.
There are no cracks, chips, or nicks, but there is some loss to the gold on the candle cups and upswept edging on the base. Even with the minor wear to the gold, this is a wonderfully crafted and designed P L France candlestick. |
