Dressed for the freezing weather in a hooded coat, boots and gloves, the lone fisherman is prepared to work for as long as it takes to spear enough fish for himself and family members. The portable bed roll on which he is sitting reminds the viewer just how much patience, fortitude, and of course skill is needed to succeed at this task.
Dorothy Francis has been painting the indigenous people of Canada over the span of her lifetime. She brings focus and sensitivity to lives grounded in the experience of everyday survival and family connections.
The 9 x 6 inch art/note card does come with an envelope for mailing, if so desired but is also suitable for framing. Published during the 1970’s by Canadian Gallery Prints of Vancouver, British Columbia, there is some discoloration appropriate for its age, but no other damage issues. On the backside, there is information about the artist and her life-long subjects as well as the publisher’s name. |
