Each vintage placemat measures 17 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches and features two different Alaskan dog sledding scenes. The first is titled, Dog Sled Racing in Alaska, photo by Neva Whaley with the reverse side, in brown and yellow colors, highlighting Alaska facts – state flower, bird, fish, tree plus the state of Alaska flag and map. The second placemat has the title, Sunrise on the Trail with a larger team of dogs and the frozen, snow covered landscape. The photography is by Bob and Ira Spring with credit given to Alaska Joe. The reverse side of this one has drawings showing Native Alaskan/Inuits in activities such as snow shoe making/repair, igloo building, ice fishing, and wood or bone carving. The placemats offered here most likely date from the late 70’s/80’s time frame and they are in very good condition with the note that there is some age related browning to the edging. An internet search for comparable Alaskan photo placemats showed very few available. |
