From 1938-1944, and again from the 1950’s until nearly the end of the 60’s decade, Royal Hickman designed unique items for Haeger Pottery. This is a hard to find example of one of his ashtray designs, a vintage canoe or kayak measuring 15 3/4 inches and standing 4 inches tall to the top of the fish and wave design in the center.
The boat is done in a light gray color with the fish in a bluish green shade, jumping out of the water and right into that kayak. The ashtray is without cracks or chips, but there are two small flakes, one on each end of the cigarette rest areas, and this can be seen in our pictures. It is impressed on the backside with the Royal Haeger name, USA and mold or pattern # R1309. Simply a terrific vintage conversation and display piece! |
