The thicker plate and the more defined pattern of grapes and leaves on its shiny milk glass surface are the hallmark of the handmade Colony Harvest pattern, which was manufactured by Indiana Glass for the Lancaster Colony Corporation but did not carry the Indiana name. Early on in the manufacturing process, all milk glass items were handmade, as were these two plates from the early 1950's. The pieces made from the later 1950’s into the 1960’s time frame were machine made.
The plates measure 9 3/4 inches in diameter with the grape and leaf clusters surrounding the rim. The recessed center is without decoration. One of the plates has more visible utensil markings than the other, but for their 60+ years of age, they are both in very good vintage condition without any cracks, chips, or nicks. |
