This wonderful 16 x 20 inch original Native American pencil lithograph is signed by artist Rob Massimiano and is numbered 23/500. Done in 1999 on heavy art paper, the lithograph is in a wood frame, and is still covered by its cellophane wrapping and protected with backing cardboard.

The scene has two portraits, an Indian warrior and an Indian maiden, dressed in traditional clothing. Birds, perhaps a falcon/hawk is perched on the warrior’s shoulder, with an eagle perched on the maiden’s shoulder. Between them are native baskets, and in the background are tepee structures of the Plains Indians. A flock of geese are in the sky above the two figures.

Hawk and eagle symbolism are an important part of Native American Indian culture. The hawk, a fierce and powerful bird, also represents the prowess of the hunter and warrior. The eagle is probably the most revered bird in Indian lore, whose feathers can carry prayers to father Sun.

This well-designed original print would be a marvelous addition to a Native American Indian art display.
