This is definitely a one-of-a-kind 9 inch Venezuela Folk Art plate. Terra Cotta/Red Clay in its natural unglazed state is the base for a handpainted mountain scene with Venezuela written in the blue sky above. On the bottom right side of the plate and at the center area, are the 3 –Dimensional figures of a vase or jar/olla and a saguaro cactus, green in color with a polished glaze. Surrounding the rim, and also beneath the cactus design, are both round and scroll shaped ceramic designs, resembling brass or goldtone metal.

On the backside of the plate is the artist’s name, T. Santa, followed by Edwiges, and Quibor. There is picture wire in place through an attached pottery loop at the top. We do note a few flecks of color that strayed onto the edging of the plate, but this is minor. The use of the mixed media on the pottery plate makes this folk artwork a stand-out. Earth tone colors highlight the beauty of the Venezuela landscape with the raised, 3D figures and metal decoration adding to its appeal.
